The bridge, a bowstring truss, was built in 1883 by the King Iron Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio, and is considered one of the rarest and most historically significant types of bridges in the country. Damaged by an ice jam in 2009, and flooding this summer, it finally gave way to nature after spanning the river for 127 years. "I never expected to not see those arches," she said weeping. "But it shocked me today when the bridge wasn't there."
