"I love you," Candi Diercks says to her son, Matt, 30, while planting a kiss on his cheek while he rests before one of his therapy sessions at On With Life, a brain injury rehabilitation center in Ankeny. Matt was injured in a motorcycle accident in July and has been rehabbing at On With Life since October. Matt can't speak yet, but responds to his mother's kiss by opening and closing his jaw and an occasional moan. Candi and her husband, Jeff, moved to Ankeny from Sabula to be near Matt while he recovers.
