Twin brothers Virgil, left, and Verle Lubberden, 88, of Oskaloosa served side-by-side in WWII in the 114th infantry regiment, 44th division. In a battle on the drive to Strasbourg, France, Verle’s left leg was hit and Virgil helped patch him up. The next day, Virgil was also hit in the left leg.
