An early dismissal from school combined with pleasant weather made for perfect conditions for a hilltop picnic for a group of friends from North, Lincoln and Southeast Polk High Schools Wednesday at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines. The slope overlooks "Nomade" a 25-foot-tall sculpture built from randomly arranged stainless steel letters by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. "We've driven by so many times and we have always said we wanted to come and have a picnic here," said Lindsey Schultz of Des Moines, one of the picnickers.
